Downtown Bakery

Akron is our home, and downtown is the heart of it! We love being downtown Akron's premier micro-bakery, because we know if it's downtown it needs to be the best. Since opening in 2015, we start our mornings early to bake you the freshest pastries, cookies, scones, quiche, cheesecakes, and more. Walk through downtown in the early morning and you just might catch the smell of cinnamon rolls baking, wafting down Wheeler Lane onto Mill Street.

As a part of downtown Akron's small business community, we encourage you to patronize all of downtown's small businesses! Please take advantage of on street parking in front of the bakery on Mill Street (free on weekends!), the free parking lot in the rear of the building (accessible from High Street), or one of the many adjacent public parking decks. And if you're unsure, call ahead! We're happy to answer any questions you might have before you arrive, to ensure you have a thoroughly delicious experience.

Handcrafted with Quality Ingredients

High-quality, fresh ingredients are the foundation of each product we make. As a micro-bakery, every item is crafted in small batches using time-honored techniques to ensure the highest quality baked goods every time. No mixes or pre-made junk here! We're lucky to have access to a wide variety of quality local businesses, and you'll find ingredients from the Akron Honey Company, Not Yo' Daddy's Hot Sauce, Akron Coffee Roasters, Norka Beverage and more among those we use in our products and carry in our shop. We put thought into every item we use, so you don't have to.

A quality pastry calls for an expertly crafted coffee, so we took advantage of our closure during the pandemic to install a new Espresso Machine! You can now stop in Fridays - Sundays for a variety of traditional espresso drinks, or a fresh cup of our filter-brewed coffee.

Our Mission Statement

Sweet Mary's Bakery is a community-driven micro-bakery, passionately committed to serving high quality baked goods and comfort foods, made from scratch by our diverse, collaborative workforce. As members of the downtown Akron community, we strive to work with and support our local community, through use and sales of local products in our shop, fundraisers & donations for organizations and causes that align with our values, as well as social media and in-store promotion of local causes and organizations. As members of the global community, we strive to be mindful of how we treat others, how we treat the earth, and how we use our platform to speak up against injustices - locally, nationally, and abroad. And finally, as a bakery, we strive to have fun, learn from our mistakes, and eat them when they are delicious!

Owned and operated by Mary Hospodarsky, a West Akron native and St. V-M Alum, Sweet Mary's Bakery isn't your typical bakery. We make it a priority to champion the success of all female and minority entrepreneurs in our community, as well as causes that affect women and minorities locally and around the world.

Baking the World a Better Place

Because we are passionate about what we do, we put our hearts into our food and into this business. Sometimes that means our hearts interfere with traditionally accepted business practices and we feel the need to stand up for our values and make a statement regarding current events.

At our core, we're just people who love to bake. People who live and breathe the same air as everyone else. And we believe that food made and shared with love can truly make this world a better place. So to that end we will always fight for what we believe in, and we might even put it on a cookie.
